Consumers Should Ensure That Their Christmas Gifts Are Covered
With Christmas just around the corner, consumers in the UK are being warned to check their home contents insurance policies to make sure that the gifts that will be in their homes are covered against theft or damage. Many consumers in the UK take out a set amount of contents cover with their home insurance, forgetting that at times like Christmas the value of their contents can rocket.
 Many households, particularly with larger households where there are many people to buy for, have a range of expensive gifts wrapped up and ready to dish out on Christmas day, but many fail to think about the consequences in the event of a burglary. Specific items such as jewellery and computers may not automatically be covered and it is important for consumers to check this and to ensure that they have adequate insurance cover.
Recent reports carried out by financial companies and analysts indicated that many households in the UK have inadequate contents insurance cover, and according to statistic some households have no contents cover at all, which means that there is no protection in place in the event of accidents and theft. In addition to this, Christmas is a time when many households are targeted by burglars, simply because it is the time of year when there are likely to be expensive items boxed up and ready to take.
All households that intend to have expensive items such as jewellery and electrical items in the house over the Christmas period should ensure that they contact their insurers and make sure that the items are covered against accidental damage and theft. Damage to or theft of gifts can be disappointing and distressing, but at least with adequate insurance cover the financial costs can be recouped.
